Houston Technology Center (HTC) Launches Emerging Technology Council

htc_logo.gif

The Houston Technology Center has traditionally advertised themselves as a business accelerator, meaning that they help take companies from launch stage to growth stage and beyond, but don’t really address people trying to get from idea stage to launch stage (with the exception of some of the workshops they offer).  It looks like things are beginning to change and that there is a renewed focus on working to help grow the Houston startup community at large.  This can only mean great things for everyone who is involved with startups or entrepreneurial ventures in Houston.

According to HTC’s site, The Emerging Technology Council will focus on achieving four goals:

  • Provide emerging-technology companies with access to helpful organizations, associations and institutions located in Houston.
  • Strengthen the ties between Houston’s technology-oriented organizations.
  • Match Houston’s major corporations with qualified emerging-technology companies.
  • Recruit fast-growth technology companies from other parts of the nation to Houston.

The HTC has also recently brought on Marc Nathan as the Director of Development, Information Technology and the successor to Robert Brackenridge, who has left the HTC to pursue his own Konstruction Zone project (I say that he has left the HTC, but his new venture is actually listed as one of the HTC tenants).  Marc is one of the founders of BarCamp Houston (along with Erica O’Grady who we covered here), the Houston OpenCoffee Club, and has his own investment boutique and business consulting company, Bulldog Financial.  I am very encouraged and excited to see Marc’s addition to the HTC team and look forward to seeing what new things they bring to the Houston startup community.
