Just when you thought that Richard Yoo couldn’t get any more coverage here in Houston (see here, here, & here), he shows up again.  This time Richard has been named as the 2007 Chair for AIR Houston.  Also on the board are Erica O’Grady of The Method Agency and Kelsey Ruger of PopLabs

According to their site

“AIR is an acronym for Accessibility Internet Rally, AIR is a Web design contest focused on creating Web sites that are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities who may use assistive technology to browse the Web.

AIR-Houston is organized as a one-day “Web raising.” Teams of Web professionals donate their design services to create simple sites for local nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of the Houston community.”

Kelsey Ruger has informed me that the next “web raising” event is currently scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3rd and it would be great if some of Houston’s startup talent could participate.  If you are into web design or development and would like to help the less fortunate with your skills, you can find out more and sign-up here.

Thought you’d like to know that The Creative Space ( http://www.thecreativespace.org ) is participating in this event.

I completely forgot to mention to you that this year’s AIR competition is a preliminary for a statewide competition. Once AIR Houston is completed the top 3 teams in each category will go on to compete against the top teams from the AIR Austin and AIR San Antonio competitions. We will be picking a statewide winner from that group.

If you’re thinking about participating but aren’t sure of your accessible design skills, training is provided to all teams that sign up.
